C2 PROFICIENCY
Proficiency is the most advanced Cambridge English exam. It is geared towards those who use English for professional purposes or for studies at a very high level. Proficiency corresponds to Level C2 of the Common European Framework (CEFR).
At C2 level, candidates should be able to:
- Understand practically everything they hear and read.
- Take detailed and reliable notes during a presentation.
- Understand colloquial comments.
- Speak about complex and difficult topics without feeling uneasy.
- Express themselves precisely and fluently.
What are the components of Proficiency?
The exam comprises four parts:
Reading and Use of English: 1 hour 30 minutes
You will be tested on your understanding and use of English in seven tasks which will highlight your control of grammar and vocabulary as well as your ability to understand texts.
Writing: 1 hour 30 minutes
You will have to show that you can write two texts: one obligatory text of 240-280 words, identifying key points in two short texts, summarising and justifying your own opinions; and another text of 280-320 words which may be an article, a report, a review or a letter.
Listening: approximately 40 minutes
You will have to complete various tasks showing that you can understand the meaning of a series of spoken materials, which may include monologues, conversations, presentations, anecdotes, news programmes and interviews.
Speaking: approximately 16 minutes
You will do the speaking test together with another candidate or in a group of three people. It will assess your ability to take part in different types of interaction: with the examiner, with another candidate and alone. You will have to express opinions and justify your decisions.
